If Jacksonville is the spark that kickstarts all of what makes Fringe unique (beside the wonderful characters, that is), then Peter is its heart. I can rarely find the words to explain what it's like to watch this episode, time after time -- it's powerful enough to leave one speechless and thinking about it for hours after.
My only complaint is that we know so little of this time, so little of the world according to Walter and William and Nina Sharp, when they were still working together. And how does Nina fit into all of it? Did she know Walter first? Was it William? Was she also a scientist? What did Elizabeth do before taking care of Peter 24/7? There are just so many questions, so many things that we will never know.

Synopsis:
Walter approaches Olivia to help her process recent events and to share the long kept secret he has maintained about Peter's origins in the alternate universe. He vividly recalls his ordeal in 1985 for Olivia, explaining the nature of affairs with his wife, his assistant, his visit to the alternate universe, his encounter with The Observer, the loss of his son and the abduction and restoration to health of the other Peter.
Most Memorable Quote:
CARLA WARREN: I may go to church every Sunday, Walter, but I also have three degrees in theoretical physics, and I am telling you you cannot do this. We both know the amount of energy required to create a portal will forever ruin both universes. For the sake of one life, you will destroy the world. Some things are not ours to tamper with. Some things are God's.
WALTER: My son is dying, Doctor Warren. I will not allow that to happen again. There's only room for one God in this lab, and it's not yours. (points to Lake Reiden on the map) The lake. It's perfect. The water will absorb the excess energy. And I won't be needing your assistance any further today, Doctor Warren.

I honestly would not know where to start, but this recent addition: Ghosts That We Knew, by mrspollifax, is a great What if situation starting after Subject 13, and thus in the same timeframe as Peter. If you have more fic you recommend, please leave it in the comments.
