Why would you include Mole Rat DNA in your baby's "survive mom's womb" design? Why? No one will ever want to look at that kid, let alone get to know him and his scorpion ways. You have doomed him to a life of solitude and raw dog from the start.
As the first in the 2 lacklustre episodes between that great season opener and Momentum Deferred, this episode is...well, lacklustre. There's not really all that much going on, other than Olivia struggling with her cane, her newly acquired superhuman hearing that never made an appearance again, and her fear of being vulnerable; and some heavy handed parallels between Mole Daddy and Walter in their struggle for their sons and the consequences of their hubris. See also, Peter Bishop dancing through life to the tune of Smooth Operator, and conning nuns into cursing the lord. What's new?
Also of note: that was sweet moment at the end, between oblivious, good guy Walter and his (secretly-yearning-for-your-affection) hardened criminal of a son. Only one of many, in the long road to heartbreak that is season two, wherein the writers uplift our spirits with beautiful father-son moments only to stomp on our poor hearts in the last stretch.
Also of note (part 2): Sam Weiss says hi! *waves*

Writer: The Two Headed Monster...erm, Joel Wyman and Jeff Pinkner

Originally aired: 24 Sept 2009
Synopsis:
A highway construction worker in rural Pennsylvania goes missing when he is mysteriously drawn into an underground tunnel. In his lab, Walter attempts to simulate travel between alternate universes using frogs. The science team believes that the disappearance in Pennsylvania may not be an isolated incident.
Most Memorable Quote:
WALTER: Are you going fishing, son?
PETER: Yes. But not alone.
WALTER: Oh, no. Who with?
PETER: Well, once upon a time, there was a young man... probably around ten or eleven, who got it in his head that he wanted to take his father fishing. (preparing his tackle) So he saved-up all his money from his paper route and bought a very special lure. (displays the bait)
WALTER: Oh.
PETER: It's called the Night Of Desirable Objects. Sadly, his father was never really all that available to him, so, what started out as a would-be bonding experience - ended up with a young man fishing alone in a boat.
WALTER: (inspecting the lure) And this young man... gave this to you?
PETER: (laughing along with Astrid) Yes, Walter.
WALTER: Can I come... with you and your friend?
PETER: You know what Walter? I think that would make the trip.
WALTER: Good... good.
