I can appreciate those elements, but I'm disappointed the episode didn't take the opportunity to dig more deeply into Nina and Olivia's relationship. Surely at some point the connection between Nina and the men running the cortexiphan trials came up?
Since William Bell was Nina's boss when Olivia and her sister came to live with her, I don't see how it couldn't have.
I keep wondering why Nina and Walter are so estranged in this universe, too. It has to do with Peter, but how? And Bell went off the deep end as well. Why? Did Walter go into the psychiatric hospital sooner so he wasn't around as a counter-balance to Bell's more extreme ideas? Without David Robert Jones, Bell's plans were thwarted early on in the Blueverse? All of the adults are affected by Peter's absence, all of the people he knew in any way seem different.
If I were doing post-S4 fic, I'd imply a generation of experimenters copying William Bell and Walter Bishop, with depressingly predictable consequences, Massive Dynamic connections optional. Someone needs to keep Fringe division busy, yes?
I want an alternative seasons 4-5 which begins after "One Night in October." It's on my to-write list.
